She helped lead in the U.S. Women's World Cup team to consecutive victories in 2015. In 2018, she was named cocaptain of the team. In the 2021 Olympics held in Tokyo Japan was delayed until 2021 because of the COVID-19 epidemic. Rapinoe scored two goals during the bronze medal game when the United States defeated Australia by an aggregate score of 4-3.
